A look on stained and discolored teeth is never a pleasant
one. It’s a fact that a person with stained teeth would realize as well. So,
one of the reasons for your confidence would be your bright smile. Although,
darkening of teeth may be a process that runs along with the aging process,
there are some eating habits involving certain types of foods that can
accelerate the process of teeth staining.
Nevertheless, some of these teeth staining foods are the
ones that we cannot imagine to quit consuming. Therefore, it would also be
worth discussing the ways you can retain whiteness of teeth while consuming
these foods.
Content of foods that
stains your teeth
The main item that triggers and promotes the process of
staining your teeth is acid. Acids are present in almost all of the teeth
staining foods. If you have the habit of not cleaning your teeth right after
the meals, you are more likely allowing the acids present in the foods to react
with teeth enamel. Once the teeth enamel is weakened, it becomes more incapable
to protect the main teeth’s surface, which usually has a structure like a
sponge due to existence of pores. Those pores, once exposed, allow the
absorption of foods’ content, making the teeth to look stained.
So, if you have the habit of consuming teeth staining foods,
you are going to drink a lot of water on daily basis. You would want to rinse
away the acids and staining particles in your mouth, and water is the best cure
you can get in this regard. Furthermore, consumption of a lot of water enhances
the production of saliva in your mouth. Production of more saliva means less
chance of staining particles to get hold of your teeth. Moreover, you need to
make sure that you are brushing your teeth at least twice a day. Use high
quality fluoride toothpaste.
With that said, it would be worth mentioning some of the foods
that can stain your teeth.
1. Black Tea
Coffee has been widely perceived as an item that can stain
teeth more than most of the items. Nevertheless, black tea is even more
efficient darkener. Black tea contains natural class of compounds called
tannins in abundance. Tannins have the ability to stick with the protein that
is present in teeth enamel.
2. Carbonated and sports
drinks
Carbonated and sports drink contain high content of acid
which makes them real bad for your teeth. As discussed above, acids eat away
the enamel on teeth and make them more vulnerable not only against staining
agents but also from the teeth strength point of view.
3. Berries
Berries contain chromogens which stick with the teeth and
make them look discolored. Nevertheless, quitting the consumption of berries is
never a wise idea because they are still good for your health. So, you can eat
other fruits along with berries such as apples, pears, pineapples and
cucumbers. These fruits generate saliva in your mouth.
